BRUSSELS,radio flyer foldable wagon with canopy March 10 (Reuters) - The European Commission is ready to consider compensation measures for companies hit by the coronavirus outbreak, the EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said on Tuesday, adding that additional support was on the cards for Italy.
"The Commission is here to discuss possible support measures to compensate companies for damages due to COVID-19," Vestager told a news conference citing the official name of the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
She added that Italy, the EU country worst hit so far by the crisis, could possibly benefit from further measures, in addition to more flexibility already granted by Brussels on fiscal rules.
"We stand ready to work with Italy on additional measures that may be needed as a remedy to the serious disturbance to their economy," she said. (Reporting by Francesco Guarascio @fraguarascio; editing by Philip Blenkinsop)
